From superspeedways to short tracks, Richard Petty ruled them all. But there was one track where The King dominated. During his legendary driving career, Petty amassed 15 wins at North Wilkesboro Speedway – a five-eighths mile track in the shadow of the Blue Ridge mountains. On April 5, 1981, Petty drove his No. 43 STP Buick to his final win at the now-historic venue. The race was the Northwestern 400, and it was the 194th win of his career. The win was hard fought. Petty and fellow NASCAR Hall of Fame® driver Bobby Allison battled for the lead, with Petty taking first place with just over 60 laps to go.
